Biography
Senator Neda Imasuen is a distinguished lawyer, administrator, and politician, currently serving as the Senator representing Edo South Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate. He is a dedicated member of the Labour Party (LP). Born on June 29, 1957, in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, Neda Imasuen began his education at St. Thomas Catholic School in Ogbe, Benin City, and continued his secondary education at Edo Boys High School in the same city. He went on to attend the University of Maiduguri, where he earned a Bachelor of Laws degree and was certified and enrolled as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1985. To further his education, he obtained a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus, New York, in 2004.
Senator Imasuen's professional journey began in New York, where he practiced law and served as a public advocate for several years. He later transitioned to international consultancy, and in 2010, he returned to Nigeria to work as a consultant for the European Union’s State Reforming Institutional Program (SRIP), serving as the Jigawa State Coordinator. Following his role with the EU, Imasuen joined the Nigerian Governors’ Forum as a Policy Consultant under the State Peer Review Mechanism Projects (SPRM). Between 2014 and 2015, he served as a Legislative Consultant for a World Bank Project in collaboration with SEEFOR in Asaba, Delta State, contributing to the development of the Single Treasury Account Policy. Additionally, he was the Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Matthew Urhoghide during his two terms from 2015 to 2022, before resigning to run for a Senate seat under the Labour Party.
In 2023, Senator Imasuen successfully contested and won the senatorial election for Edo South Senatorial District on the Labour Party platform. He currently chairs the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petition.
